SDM Smart Radar

The SDM Smart Radar draws a spider web over n axes. Each axis carries its own scale, so a score out of 50 and a score out of 10 can sit side by side on the same web without one crushing the other — the observed minimum and maximum of each axis define its range.

Key Features

  • Independent per-axis scales — every axis is scaled from its own min/max, with an optional shared mode when all axes really do share a unit
  • Manual axis bounds — a modal editor (gear icon, edit mode) pins the minimum and maximum of any axis
  • Data-driven colors — the Series Color field colors either the threads or the axes; the Data Colors card overrides whichever side the field is applied to
  • Logos — the Logo field feeds both the legend and the outer end of each axis
  • Area fill — optional filled polygons with an adjustable transparency
  • Graduations — ticks on the spokes, a web joining equal graduations, or concentric circles
  • Significance testing — up to three tests, each comparing every series to a reference series axis by axis, or to an external reference (last year, a benchmark…)
  • Cross-filtering — click or Ctrl+click a vertex marker to filter other visuals
  • Tooltips — axis, series value, base and custom tooltip measures on hover

Data Wells

Data RoleDescription
AxisOne spoke of the web per value. Each axis carries its own scale.
ValuesThe measure plotted along each axis
LegendSplits the web into one thread per series
Series ColorA measure or column returning a hex color, read per legend value or per axis
LogoA measure or column returning a base64 image, read per legend value and per axis
BaseSample size, required by the significance tests
Standard DeviationStandard deviation, used by the significance test on means
Significance referenceReference of an External reference significance test, as JSON — not drawn
TooltipsExtra measures added to the hover tooltip

How many axes

Three spokes are the point at which a web starts to enclose an area and read as a profile. Fewer are still drawn — two axes give a flat web, one gives a single spoke with its marker — because refusing to plot data the visual can place would leave an unexplained blank. The chart is simply not saying much yet.

Missing and out-of-range values

A series with no value on one axis simply skips that vertex: the thread short-cuts across the missing spoke instead of dropping to the centre, which would read as a zero.

Values falling outside the range resolved for their axis are clamped to the inner or outer ring, so a thread never escapes the web. This only happens with manual bounds — the automatic range always covers the data.

Formatting Cards

Cards are listed in the order they appear in the formatting pane.
