Animation

The Animation card plays an entrance animation when the chart appears: the data is drawn, then the labels fade in.

SettingDescription
Animation (card toggle)Turns the animation on or off. On by default.
TypeFade: the whole visual fades in at once. Grow (default): the axes and the legend fade in, the data is drawn (see the table below), then the data labels, significance markers, base row, Add. Table and Note fade in. Cascade: a variant of Grow, see below.
Duration (ms)Duration of the whole animation, from 100 to 5000 ms. 800 ms by default. The labels start fading in halfway through the drawing and end with it.

When the animation plays

The animation plays only when the data changes: when the report opens, when a filter or a slicer is changed, or when a drill-down level changes. It does not replay when you:

  • resize the visual;
  • change a setting in the Format pane;
  • select a series or a point.

It is never played:

  • during an export to PDF or PowerPoint (Power BI service and Desktop), or when a subscription e-mail is rendered. The visual is drawn in its final state straight away, so exports are not slowed down;
  • when the viewer's operating system asks for reduced motion (an accessibility setting in Windows, macOS, iOS and Android).
